The El Paso ISD Fine Arts curriculum incorporates the visual arts into all phases of student learning. Each year, 10,000 of our district students visit the El Paso Museum of Art to view permanent and changing specialty exhibitions. We send a variety of primary, fourth grade, middle school and high school students on tours there to see the importance of art in our history and daily lives Programs We also bring the visual arts to students at the campus level through the "Van Go" Mobile Art and Reading Classroom. This highly successful and popular program is introduced in the 3rd grade and is particularly successful in showing the relationship of art to core subjects such as reading and writing. "Van Go" brings art history, reading and hands on art to students several times a year through our two mobile art classrooms. This program is particularly successful in integrating the arts into the core curriculum.
In addition to these enhancement programs, the visual arts curriculum includes specialists in visual arts at the middle and high school campuses as well as some of our elementary campuses. In art classes students receive daily instruction in art history, culture, art production, critical analysis of art and ideals and directions in art career choice. Students at the high school level also have the option of taking coursework for collage credit through the Advanced Placement Art offerings.
